Sung Jin-Woo Complete Skill Database

The Only Hunter Who Kept Getting Stronger

Every hunter in Solo Leveling's world is born with a ceiling. Whatever rank they awakened at is where they stay. Sung Jin-Woo is the only person this does not apply to. He started at E-Rank, the absolute floor, and scaled past every category the rankings had, carrying two complete combat kits simultaneously: the Assassin's precision and speed, and the Shadow Monarch's extraction and command authority. Neither replaced the other. They compound.

This page covers the complete database: Shadow Monarch class abilities, Assassin and Player class skills, always-on passive buffs, rune stone acquisition mechanics, the full title system, and the tactical combinations that make all of it more than the sum of its parts.

Neither replaced the other. They compound.

Shadow Monarch Class Skills

Four abilities exclusive to the Shadow Monarch class. None are acquired through rune stones. None require mana to activate.

Passive

Shadow Preservation

Type: Passive · Mana Cost: 0 · Cooldown: None

Stores extracted Shadow Soldiers within Sung Jin-Woo's shadow (the Territory of Eternal Rest). Stored soldiers consume no mana and are not physically present until summoned. Capacity starts at 20 and scales with INT; the cap is functionally removed by the end of the series, with the army exceeding ten million soldiers.

Active

Shadow Exchange

Type: Active · Mana Cost: Variable · Cooldown: 3 hours to 0

Instantly swaps Sung Jin-Woo's position with any deployed Shadow Soldier regardless of distance. A soldier must already be present at the destination; the skill exploits an existing position, it does not create one. Cooldown begins at three hours and is removed entirely after he receives Ashborn's Black Heart.

Buff

Monarch's Domain

Type: Active Buff · Mana Cost: Variable · Cooldown: None

Expands Sung Jin-Woo's shadow across the ground of the surrounding area, turning the surface into a purple-black void. All Shadow Soldiers standing within the Domain receive a 50% boost to all stats for the duration. Sung Jin-Woo himself does not receive the buff; it applies exclusively to his soldiers. The radius scales with his overall power level.

All three failures destroys the soul permanently. That target cannot be attempted again.
3Attempts allowed per Shadow Extraction target. Failing all three destroys the soul permanently

Assassin and Player Class Skills

Acquired through System leveling and rune stone absorption. Evolution chains noted inline where applicable.

Paralyzes or stuns any being whose power falls below the caster's.
Active

Quicksilver

Evolved from: Sprint · Mana Cost: 1 MP/sec · Cooldown: None

Base form Sprint granted a 30% movement speed increase. At Quicksilver level, Sung Jin-Woo's movement exceeds what the human eye can track and opponents appear to slow down from his perspective.

Sprint to Quicksilver

Active

Mutilate

Evolved from: Vital Strike · Mana Cost: Variable · Cooldown: None

Base form Vital Strike dealt critical damage to a single vital point. Mutilate delivers a compressed barrage of invisible dagger slashes, dozens of individual cuts registered in the time a target perceives as a single moment.

Vital Strike to Mutilate

Active

Stealth

Origin: Rune Stone (Kang Tae-Shik, B-Rank Assassin) · Mana Cost: 200 MP activation + 10 MP/sec

Conceals physical presence, sound, smell, and mana signature simultaneously. A target with very high perception may detect a faint spatial distortion but cannot pinpoint the source.

Active

Ruler's Authority

Evolved from: Dominator's Touch · Mana Cost: 0 · Cooldown: None

Telekinesis operating via the authority of the Rulers rather than mana, bypassing mana-type resistances. Sufficient at full power to physically restrain Dragon-class entities. Base form Dominator's Touch came from a rune stone dropped by Igris; the evolved form is the same class of ability held by National Level hunter Ruler vessels.

Dominator's Touch to Ruler's Authority

Active

Dagger Rush

Origin: System Level-Up · Mana Cost: Variable · Cooldown: None

Combines Quicksilver-level movement with simultaneous strike angles from multiple directions. Any single defensive position leaves vectors open.

Active

Bloodlust

Origin: System Level-Up · Mana Cost: Variable · Duration: 1 minute

Projects killing intent as an external magical aura. Targets whose stats fall below Sung Jin-Woo's are inflicted with Fear: all stats reduced by 50% for sixty seconds. Targets near his power level may resist fully or take a brief stun instead.

Any BeingDragon's Fear paralyzes or stuns any target whose power falls below the caster's, no resistance check needed

Passive Skills and Buffs

Always active. No activation required. No mana cost. No cooldown. These abilities run continuously regardless of what Sung Jin-Woo is doing.

Passive

Perseverance

Trigger: HP drops below 30%

All incoming damage reduced by 50% once HP falls below 30%. Stacks with The One Who Overcame Adversity title, which scales stats inversely with missing HP.

Passive

Longevity

Trigger: Always active

Complete immunity to all diseases, poisons, venoms, and chemical status effects. Severed limbs regenerate given sufficient time.

Passive

Will to Rehabilitate

Trigger: Always active (early series only)

Accelerated limb regeneration active between Sung Jin-Woo's reawakening and his Job Change. No longer appears in the status window after the Job Change; Longevity covers full regeneration from that point.

Rune Stone Mechanics

Rune stones are consumable items dropped by certain bosses that encode a skill within them. For most hunters, a rune stone is a commodity: it needs to be sold to a specialist buyer, assessed, and converted into a skill book through a process that takes time and resources that rank-and-file hunters rarely have access to.

Sung Jin-Woo does not use this process. The System grants him the ability to shatter a rune stone directly and absorb the encoded skill instantaneously. The stone breaks, the skill is registered, and it is immediately usable. No intermediary. No waiting period. No auction.

This matters for two reasons. First, it means Sung Jin-Woo can acquire skills from bosses he kills personally, abilities that would otherwise disappear into the market or remain inaccessible at his rank. Second, it means his kit is partially determined by which bosses he happens to encounter. The rune stone drops are not System-assigned. They are incidental to his combat path, which is why Stealth came from an enemy who tried to kill him in a dungeon trap rather than from a quest reward.

Title Buffs

Titles are permanent passive achievements earned by meeting specific conditions. They cannot be removed or transferred. Multiple titles are held simultaneously and their effects stack where applicable.

TitleConditionPassive Effect
The PlayerSurvive the Double Dungeon altar and accept the System interfaceUnique designation granting access to the System. No other entity in the series holds this title. All other skills and progression mechanics depend on this title being active.
Wolf SlayerKill 100 wolves in the Hunter's Proving Ground dungeon+40% damage against all Beast-type monsters and entities. Relevant against the Beast Monarch and his army in the late series.
The One Who Overcame AdversitySurvive an encounter where survival was statistically impossible, multiple timesBerserker scaling: stats increase by 1% for every 1% of missing HP. Stacks additively with Perseverance's damage reduction at the sub-30% HP threshold.
Demon King SlayerClear the Demon Castle and defeat the Demon King Baran+100,000 MP added to base pool via the Black Heart. At endgame, this directly enables Shadow Exchange's cooldown removal by providing the mana infrastructure for unlimited teleportation.
Monarch of ShadowsReceive Ashborn's Black Heart and fully awaken as the Shadow MonarchCommand over Ashborn's original army granted immediately. Shadow Preservation cap removed. Full authority over the Territory of Eternal Rest established.

How the Kit Comes Together

The most tactically significant combination in Sung Jin-Woo's kit is Shadow Exchange into Stealth. A shadow soldier is placed inside an enemy position in advance, tucked into a crowd, deployed near a structure, embedded in a situation the enemy controls. Sung Jin-Woo, fully concealed by Stealth, waits at a distance with no detectable presence. The moment he chooses to engage, he swaps. The enemy's defensive attention was directed outward. He is now inside their guard before a single reaction frame has elapsed. It is the only teleportation method in the series with no visible tell, no charge time, and no line-of-sight requirement.

The second combination is Bloodlust into Mutilate. Against an opponent near Sung Jin-Woo's power threshold, landing Mutilate on a target at full strength risks a block or a partial deflection. Against a target inflicted with Fear, those stats are halved. Speed is halved. Perception is halved. Defensive response time collapses. Mutilate's invisible barrage lands against something that can no longer process what is happening to it. The sixty-second Fear window is more time than Sung Jin-Woo needs. In practice the sequence ends well before the debuff expires.

The third is Monarch's Domain as an army multiplier rather than a personal buff. Sung Jin-Woo does not need a 50% stat increase. His soldiers do. When the Domain is active, a Marshal-rank shadow is operating at one-and-a-half times its already-S-Rank-equivalent output. When Bellion's original hundred thousand soldiers fight within Domain range, the output is not an arithmetic calculation. It is a force disparity. The Domain is why Sung Jin-Woo's army punches above what a headcount would suggest, and why opponents who assess the army by size alone consistently underestimate what they are facing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the three-attempt extraction limit and why does it matter?

Shadow Extraction gives Sung Jin-Woo exactly three attempts per target. All three failing destroys the soul permanently with no way to retry. The limit matters most for high-value targets: Igris succeeded on the second attempt, Beru on the third. One more failure on Beru would have removed the Ant King from the army permanently.

How does INT affect the Shadow Army?

Intelligence governs two parameters simultaneously: the success rate of each Shadow Extraction attempt against high-power targets, and the Shadow Preservation capacity (how many soldiers can be held in storage). The starting cap is 20 soldiers, scales with INT, and is functionally removed by the end of the series with the army exceeding ten million.

Can any other hunter use Shadow Monarch skills?

No. Shadow Extraction, Shadow Preservation, Shadow Exchange, and Monarch's Domain are exclusive to the Shadow Monarch class, a hidden designation unique to Sung Jin-Woo as The Player. The only overlap with any other hunter is Ruler's Authority, which National Level hunters who are Ruler vessels also possess.

What is the difference between Dominator's Touch and Ruler's Authority?

Dominator's Touch was mana-based telekinesis acquired from a rune stone dropped by Igris. Ruler's Authority is the evolved form, operating via the authority of the Rulers rather than mana, which means it bypasses mana-type resistances and can physically restrain Dragon-class entities. The name change signals the power source change, not just a stat increase.

Does Sung Jin-Woo retain his skills after the Cup of Reincarnation?

Yes. The Cup of Reincarnation rewound the timeline by ten years and erased everyone else's memories of the war, but Sung Jin-Woo retained all skills, titles, stats, shadow army, and Shadow Monarch power intact. He then spent 27 subjective years in the dimensional gap before returning to the reset Earth.
